This presentation will look the state of the retail industry - now and in the near future - including discussion of the overall economy, consumer trends and changing consumer shopping preferences and prospects for retail expansion in 2009. Cutting-edge retail design trends will be covered, as well as a review of RDI's own, "Store of the Year" retail design award winners, as recently announced in New York.

Come learn about the issues retailers are facing in 2009, as consumers adapt to challenging economic conditions, and see how the latest design solutions maintain creativity and customer appeal.

Special guest speaker: RoxAnna Sway

RoxAnna Sway is a consultant and communications specialist focusing on the retail industry and retail design. Early in her career, she held executive positions in creative services and strategic marketing with Rich's Department Store, Atlanta, and Macy's, New York, both divisions of Macy's Inc. (previously Federated Department Stores) as well as Oshman's Sporting Goods.

For the past 10 years, Sway was editor-in-chief of the retail design industry publication DDI magazine, providing a unique professional perspective while directing the magazine's coverage of the retail design industry. Under her direction the magazine was redesigned and recognized with 32 national and regional awards for journalism and editorial excellence.

Sway is a professional member of the Retail Design Institute (RDI) and the recipient of RDI's "Lifetime Achievement Award" and the 'Retail Design Legion of Honor". She is a commentator, spokesperson and a frequent speaker at industry events, and has contributed to a diversified range of disciplines, encompassing design, strategic marketing and media communications. RoxAnna has been recognized as a constant innovator, able to read the tea leaves and to predict and respond to emerging trends.
