Chapters and Students
July 25, 2009 9:46amI was invited by the Chapter to presnt and speak at the Art Institute of Atlanta this past Thursday. There were about 20 students and a few of their professors attending the International Store Design Awards. When the presenation was over, about have the students came up to ask me questions. Most of the questions were around what does it take to get hired; what goes into a great portfolio, how do they get an interview, what's important to talk about, and what are they deciding factors? They were also concerned about how the economy has cut down on the opprotunities, no one is hiring. Any design/Archtectural Student graduating in 2010 and 2011 will have a career opprotunity to catch a wave a gowth. Historically, the industry se a 40% upswing after a ression and with a whole generation of young designers now finding careers in other field, the level of responibility in entry positions will be the highest they have been since 1993. Their career growth will be accelerated. I once again challenge the Chapters to continue their outreach to design schools to excite the next wave of talent to enter on of the most dynamic design fields. Yes there is risk in a career so dependant on the economy, but the rewards far out weigh this. So, get out there. I will be posting a list of recommendations and what I look for during the interview process on the Facebook group and here on my blog. How about supporting Student Chapters?
