42nd Annual International Design Competition Awards Gala

The Retail Design Institute's 42nd International Store Design Awards Gala took place  Monday, January 14 at the TimesCenter Stage in New York City. More than 250 of the retail design industry's top design talent, retailers, media and vendors joined the Retail Design Institute as it recognized the top store designs from 2012.

Emceed by Ray Ehscheid, RDI, Bank of America, and visually presented in musically themed movies of the winners, the evening's presentations moved quickly forward.

The Institute's International Chairman Brian Dyches, FRDI, announced and awarded  top honors. The 2012 Store of the Year was Mistral Wine Store designed by Studio Arthur Casas.

Other stores recognized for outstanding achievements with first places included Aaron Brothers by Chute Gerdeman (Hard Line Specialty Store), Ann Summers by FITCH, Joe Fresh NYC flagship by Burdifilek (Soft Line Specialty Store), Shinsegae Uijeongbu by JHP, Liverpool Interlomas Department Store  by FRCH Design Worldwide (New or Completely Renovated  Department Store ), City Target National Strategy byTarget Store Design (Large FormatSpecialty Store), Chicago Sports Depot by RGLA Solutions, Inc (Entertainment/ Amusement Retail ), PEZ Visitor Center by RGLA Solutions, Inc (Museum Retail/ Hospitality Retail), Ole’ Supermarket G4 by rkd retail/iQ , Longo's Leaside by Watt International Inc.(Supermarket),Mistral Wine StorebyStudio Arthur Casas (Specialty Food/ Gourmet Grocer),  Hambar by GH+A (Sit Down Restaurant), MyBurger Reinvention by FAME (Fast Casual Restaurant Concept),Suits Lobby Lounge by II by IV Design Associates (Bar/ Coffee Shop/ Counter-Service Restaurant), Jordan Flight Lab 2012 by LIT Workshop (Pop-Up Store/Shop (Temporary Retail)),Santa Cruz Pharmacy by Marketing-Jazz, AT&T Michigan Ave. Flagship Storeby Callison (Service Retail)and Colour with Asian Paints by FITCH (Singapore) (Manufacturer's Showroom).

Several projects were also honored with special "Innovation" awards for the new ground and excellence they demonstrated in key disciplines related to store design. Projects included Mistral Wine Store by Studio Arthur Casas; Joe Fresh, NYC Flagship, by Burdifilek for Lighting Design; New Balance Boston, by New Balance for Finishes Color & Materials; MyBurger Reinvention by Fame for Signage /Graphics; Liverpool Interlomas Department Store by FRCH Design Worldwide for Store Planning; Engelbert Strauss Workwear Store by plajer & franz studio gbr for Visual Merchandising. Colour with Asian Paints by FITCH (Singapore), AT&T Michigan Avenue flagship by Callison, Mistral Wine Store by Studio Arthur Casas were all honored for Innovative Sales Technology.
