Green Retail Revolution: Grupo Boticário’s Sustainable Design Strategy at the Shops Go Green Event

[ENG] The Retail Design Institute Brazil organized an event titled "Shops Go Green" at the Istituto Europeo di Design in São Paulo, gathering around 40 designers to discuss sustainable practices in retail design. The event featured a case study on "Boti Recicla," an initiative by Grupo Boticário, one of Brazil's largest cosmetic retailers with over 4,000 stores across the country. This program emphasizes circular sustainability by collecting used product packaging from customers, which is then treated and repurposed into materials for the expansion of Grupo Boticário's stores.

Grupo Boticário has made significant strides in sustainability across its operations. Their commitment to environmental stewardship is evident in their various initiatives, such as achieving a recycling rate of 96.9% for by-products and using 89.7% renewable electricity in their operations. The group also supports over 23 recycling cooperatives through the Boti Recicla program, impacting around 780 families positively.

In addition to recycling, Grupo Boticário is active in biodiversity conservation and sustainable product development. They have introduced over 500 vegan products and developed new rinse products designed to minimize water impact.

The event was presented by Junior Abreu, an architect and store experience manager at Grupo Boticário, and moderated by Renato Fregnani, president of the Retail Design Institute in Brazil. This session not only highlighted practical applications of sustainability but also served as a platform for discussing broader environmental impacts and sustainable practices within the retail sector.
