Grand Central Mimico, Etobicoke, Ont. | 51st International Design Competition Winner

Grand Central Mimico, Etobicoke, Ont. Design: Figure3, Toronto Photography: Arash Moallemi Photography, Toronto

Mimico is a master-planned community in greater Toronto spanning four city blocks and anchored by residential space including high-rise towers. The Buckingham Tower needed a presentation center for potential homeowners.

The Figure3 team took an existing industrial space with just over 4,000 sq. ft. using retail design concepts to present potential homeowners with surfacing, appliance and fixture options. The customer journey is laid out like a promenade of shops, where potential buyers can engage and interact at various touchpoints. A series of vignettes offer a relaxed, shopping-like experience to educate, inspire and drive condo sales. Designed to evolve over time, the vignettes can be updated to incorporate new signage, themes, and finishes with each phase of the development.

The judges found the series of vignettes effective in creating a compelling customer journey.

General Contractor: Vandyk Properties, Mississauga, Ont.
