Longo's, Toronto Ampersand Studio Inc.
Longo's operates 31 full-sized supermarkets in and around Toronto. For its newest store in suburban Toronto, the Ampersand Studio team evolved a concept that was created for Longo’s a year ago. The result is a 22,500-sq.-ft. space that is a supermarket, doubling as a gathering place for people in the community. From a store layout and planning point of view, a large amount of space was dedicated to the food hall/seating area resulting in smaller and well-curated center store grocery and shorter gondola runs and altering the shopping experience to a more convenient and quick shop.
This project received an INNOVATION AWARD for ENVIRONMENTAL GRAPHIC DESIGN.
The open-concept space that incorporates industrial elements – concrete columns, exposed ventilation pipes, LED neon signs – reflects the role of manufacturing and factories in this area. Longo's predominately monochromatic color scheme echoes the industrial aesthetic, with bold accent colors highlighting new offerings.
