NHL, New York City | 51st International Design Competition Winner

Updated: Sep 16, 2023

NHL, New York City Design: TPG Architecture, New York City Photography: Eric Laignel, New York City

Drawing inspiration from the NHL brand, logo, and core values of the game of hockey, the TPG team created a clean, modern environment for its new 11,000-sq.-ft. flagship in New York City. In a collaborative effort with the NHL, Fanatic, and Lids, the team created an innovative, world-class retail experience.

The new flagship store serves as a pilgrimage site for hockey fans everywhere to support and connect with their favorite team. Thanks to its proximity to Madison Square Garden, the flagship can host players and serve as a hangout spot for fans before and after games. The store’s curved exterior echoes the shape of a hockey rink and the movement of players skating on ice. A series of 28 high-definition video walls running live game broadcasts, original NHL productions, and real-time content from NHL social media accounts, connect fans to the brand as they shop.

The judges were wowed by the materials used to reference ice. Adding, the ceiling element is a show-stopper!
