M&M’s, Berlin | 51st International Design Competition Winner

M&M’s, Berlin

Design: Landor & Fitch, New York City

Photography: Simon Lewis, New York City

The Landor & Fitch team was on board to help M&Ms make its debut in continental Europe on Kurfürstendamm, Berlin’s most popular shopping street. For the 29,000-sq.-ft. store, the team created unique design elements dedicated to Berlin's cultural and artistic roots from a graffiti wall inspired by the Berlin Wall, that provides the perfect photo op, and “Karaoke Garden,” a photo moment that taps into Berlin's karaoke culture.

One of the city’s famous M-Bahn train cars appears to be coming out of the wall in the setting of the local subway station, complete with a train stop ticker and M&M’s own version of Berlin’s Brandenburg Gate on the window. This location includes the first-ever M&M’s Café, where customers can mix and match their favorite M&Ms flavors.

Judges cited the energetic project’s skillful use of color and unique circulation plan. Said one juror: “I see kids of any age loving this space and getting excited.”
