RS No.9 Carnaby, London Design: GH+A Design Studio, Montréal | Gavin Media LTD, London
RS No. 9 Carnaby is part gallery, part retail, and part event space -- and the ultimate fan experience designed to immerse customers in all that is the Rolling Stones.
The GH+A team wanted to respect the landmarked building’s façade choosing to ‘paint it black’ while adding small blade signs, and tonal lettering. Passersby will see an art installation of a soundwave representing the first verse of the Stones ‘60s hit “Paint It Black.”
Thanks to the full-height windows, the Rolling Stones experience starts at the entrance with clear vistas all the way to the back video wall. The team retained the glass floor that allows a view to the floor below.
The muted palette continues throughout the 2,500-st.-ft. environment with tiles, wood and metal accented by pops of Rolling Stones’ red. The exposed ceiling is painted out while the concrete floor creates drama and serve as a neutral backdrop to the product.
Visitors can shop exclusives, including one-of-kind collaborations, and limited-edition art. They can take the perfect selfie at the Tongue sculptures or in the Mirror Room on the lower level.
General Contractor: Clements Retail Lightemotion (lighting designer); The Anslow Partnership (MEP); Stylo Graphics (custom tongue sculptures) Suppliers (fixturing, flooring, lighting, graphics)
